Loki & Bear want to wish all fellow Collies a happy Christmas. x

Thursday 17 December 2009

Mum has been asked to help the lovely Sasha.

Sasha is good with other dogs and cats as you can see! She is an American Bulldog, 2 years old, neutered, vaccs, chipped and insured. She can be a little bit boistrous so not for a home with young children but fine with teenagers upward. Sasha was rescued from awful circumstances as a pup but sadly ill health has caused her owner to look for a new home for Sasha.

If you can help please contact Mum via the website http://www.bordercolliesinneed.co.uk/

You will need to be home checked and also be willing to give a donation to a chosen charity.

Friday 4 December 2009

Well Christmas is most definately upon us and the traditional out with the old pets and in with the new has begun!! Mum went into my local vet today with some of our Christmas quiz booklets and they had just been handed a lovely white bunny to be destroyed. No longer wanted because the kids are getting Guinea Pigs for Christmas (the makers of G Force have got a lot to answer for)! The poor bunny is a house rabbit so has never lived outside, is neutered and litter trained, health and fit just not wanted anymore.
Sadly Mum couldn't bring him home because of us and the cats but is trying to help him get a new home before Christmas.

Tuesday 24 November 2009

Auntie Nannette has made a fab Christmas Quiz book to raise money for all the needy Border Collies like me and Bear so please buy one and have a go this year. Some of the quizes are really hard but it's a great way to help us dogs at Christmas while having some good family fun too. Booklets are not expensive, just £2 and will be for sale at lots of different places around Wales but if you aren't local don't worry we will send one to you, just send an email with your name and address and pay by paypal on the website or send a cheque.

Friday 13 November 2009

We have been very sad since Mum managed to rescue one of the collies from Stoke. He was a 12 month old boy called Axel who had been so badly treated and adused that he had to be put to sleep. It is so awful to think what this poor baby had gone through since he was born, he probably didn't know any kindness until his last 24 hours with his foster carer Sue.

The worst thing is that the cruel b*****ds that did this will most likely to go on breeding  pups and selling them on sites like Preloved to idiots who make it easy for them. Please please PLEASE if you want a dog or a puppy go to a rescue or a registered breeder don't buy dogs out of the local paper, off internet sites or puppy farms do some research before you get your dog to see where it has come from. Other wise there will be more dogs just like Axel who suffer so you can have your sweet pet puppy.

Friday 30 October 2009

Mum was contacted yesterday by a distressed lady who is very worried about the safety and well being of two collies advertised on the awful preloved site. She would love to help these two dogs but the owner has refused to let them go to rescue despite the fact they are advertised 'free to a good home'. The only way she can help is if there is somewhere local they can go in the first instance while we find them a permanent foster placement. There are ways to get these two dogs out of their awful situation but we need somewhere to put them. So do we have anyone in Stoke on Trent who would be in a position to take 2 rescued collies for short term foster (a week to 10 days maybe) while we find them somewhere permanent to be fostered. They are mother & son, both in a bit of a state, nervous, entire and unvaccinated. If you can help please contact Mum via the website http://www.bordercolliesinneed.co.uk/

Sorry if you have already seen this on the other blog but we felt it was worth repeating. We are going to see Aunty Su, Uncle Marc and Poppy later they are coming to stay for a while. We haven't seen Poppy for a little while so it will be great fun! Mum is going to do some training with her while she's here :)

Thursday 15 October 2009

Mum had a great time in London but has come back with a terrible cold and hacking cough! We are trying to make her relax and take things easy but she even managed to co ordinate a collie rescue whilst she was away!

We really missed her but Dad spoiled us with lots of chews and bones so it wasn't too bad. The good news is that little orphan Annie has now got a lovely new home with a very kind lady who will love her and take good care of her. Meg is still looking and so is Tip.

Also looking for homes (although not via Border Collies In Need) are two Lab x girls both easy going and laid back, aged around 5 years. Also two Staff x Collies. Please get in touch if you think you might be able to help any of them and Mum will pass you onto the people concerned.

Thursday 8 October 2009

Mum is such a soft touch, she has offered to take some kittens from one of our animal rescuer friends. They are coming to stay for a little while before being re homed. Wonder what Mab cat will think about that!!!

Mum has been trying to rescue dogs from the free ads all week, the situation is getting really really bad. Please people don't give your pets away for free, they are worth so much more of your care and respect. If you can't keep them take them to a rescue who will look after them, find them good homes, do checks to make sure they will be okay and if anything goes wrong will take back your pet until a safe suitable place can be found.

Pets are not disposable!!!!! We are living, breathing creatures, we feel pain, stress and anxiety just like you do.

Friday 2 October 2009

Aunty Su will be having all her hair shaved off on Saturday to raise money for Border Collies In Need, we were worried she might have a cold head so we sent her a hat to keep her warm.
We think it really suits her!!!!

Saturday 26 September 2009

We are loving our new life here in South Wales, despite being more built up it's still very green and Dad managed to find us a fantastic forest walk where we can all run and play off our leads in safety. There don't seem to be as many of those sheep things here which means more freedom for us dogs so that's a plus point.

Mum is able to get some much deserved rest cause she's still not well. In fact it's lunch time and she still in her pj's - how cool is that!

Have you seen Tip??? He is the latest of the Border Collies In Need dogs and he's very handsome. Anyone who has him will be very lucky.

Everyone is busy raising money for Border Collies In Need we are donating our pocket money to sponsor Aunty Su but we would like to do something of our own, maybe a sponsored walk.

Wednesday 16 September 2009

Aunty Su is shaving all her hair off to raise money for Border Collies In Need! How cool is that??? We think she's fab! Let's hope Poppy still recognises her Mum without any hair. Please sponsor her if you can we are donating our pocket money!

We are still missing Pops and Aunty Su, especially Bear who misses her playmate loads.

Mum got very emotional this morning when the postman brought the new paying in book and cheque book for Border Collies In Need, everyone is so excited about the new project to save us Collies.

Wednesday 9 September 2009

We love our new home and garden!! It's fab and we get Mum all to ourselves which is a bonus too.

Auntie Su and Poppy have been staying with us to help unpack and get the place sorted so we are having great fun. Bear and Poppy have become glued at the hip. Dad's still working away and Mum really hasn't been well because of all the stress from Home-A-Dog and those nasty Trustees. We would like to go and bite them on the bum!!

Things are moving on with Border Collies In Need and we are excited about being able to help all those Collies.

Saturday 22 August 2009

Poor Mum is so busy at the moment what with packing for the move and setting everything in place for Border Collies In Need I hope she doesn't forget to take us with her next weekend when we leave. :)

We are really excited about the new rescue, all those Collies to meet and play with!

Big thanks and hugs to Auntie Helen who is busy building the new website and Auntie Diane (who we will miss loads) and Auntie Sue for taking on the mamouth task of fund raising for Border Collies In Need. They are all wonderful and we are lucky to have them on board!

Tuesday 18 August 2009

Tuesday 18th August

What a busy weekend we all had.

It was nice to see so many friends both doggie and human.

The highlight of the weekend for us (and I think 'Mum' and 'Dad' too) was a chance to see Poppy again. When she left Home-A-Dog she was just 9 weeks old and she had been very poorly and almost died, she had been suffering with Strangles but we all helped nurse her back to health. This time she was a wonderful, happy, healthy girl and we all had great fun running around and playing together. We didn't want her to go but her new 'Mum' & 'Dad' love her very much and would hate to be parted. We miss her though and can't wait to see her again.

It was lovely to have cuddles from Auntie Helen too. She had her doggies with her too - Sky and Blue but we didn't get to play with them this time.

Everyone was Atka (ed) which is a bit like being Tango(ed ) only less fizzy and more furry but no one seemed to mind.

Sunday 9 August 2009

Sunday 9th August

The gorgeous Charlie arrived today for a brief stay before he goes to his new foster home (thank you Sammy). I had never seen Charlie in the fur until today and I have to say he is stunning! Much bigger than I thought and with a face to die for, he looks at you with those soppy big eyes and your heart just melts!!! Whoever homes this boy will be wowed!!
Big thanks to Steph and family for taking him in and doing such a good job with him so far.

Saturday 8 August 2009

Saturday 8th August

Remember Charlie the black Lab x we were telling you about? The poor boy has now lost his foster home through no fault of his own so is set for yet more upheaval this week. Luckily Sammy one of 'Mum's' regular fosterers is going to take him so he doesn't have to stay in the kennels and get all stressed again.

We think that black dogs must be very unlucky because poor Charlie has had such a hard time!

Tuesday 4 August 2009

Tuesday 4th August

Bear and Meg got to play with the lovely Reggie today, they were doing circuits of the field this morning, great fun!!

Kanga went off to Greyhound & Lurcher rescue on Monday and she has now settled in happily until she finds her forever home.

'Mum' says there is another Greyhound at the Pound waiting to come across, I think they must be like buses and always come in twos!

Saturday 1 August 2009

Saturday 1st August

'Mum' says there has been no interest in Charlie as yet.

Did you know that statistically black dogs are harder to home than any other colour of dog?

Don't let Charlie become just another statistic. :(

Thursday 30 July 2009

Thursday 30th July

This is Charlie relaxing in his foster home, we haven't met him yet because he's over in South Wales and because he hated the kennels he was staying at 'Mum' decided to take him on and provide him with a foster home where he could make friends. Charlie is approx 6 years old and was given up by his previous owners, he is living in a lovely foster home at the moment with children, other dogs, cats, chickens and a whole array of small furry animals and he gets on amazingly with everyone. Charlie knows basic commands, is house trained and travels well. His only problem is having been in kennels for a long period of time he has some degree of separation anxiety which his new owners must be prepared to work on. Having said that Charlie is improving everyday and his foster mum is working on his issues. Charlie is a sweet dog and deserves a home of his own.

Tuesday 28 July 2009

Tuesday 28th July

We have had a great time while 'Mum' has been off work. We had lots of long walks, lots of attention and games and even a couple of outings to enjoy!

Sadly for us, the kennels are now open again and by the end of the week we will be full again. Expected doggies are a Lurcher, a Greyhound and a Jack Russell, I don't think we will be allowed to play with any of those and Sage the new Collie is too old to run around with us. Although he is very friendly and wagged his tail when he met us in the yard this morning.

Monday 13 July 2009

Monday 13th July

We haven't had much to blog about the last few days but here we are now with the good news that it looks like both Boomer and Yoyo have found new homes. Boomer will be leaving us next weekend for Bolton and Yoyo is off to lovely Devon on Thursday. So that's good news for the pair of them.

'Mum' tells us we have a new dog coming in this week a Staffy called Ragga who is a big softie! Lets hope he's easier to home than poor Bess who was with us for a long time.

Tuesday 7 July 2009

Tuesday 7th July

Everyone is laying bets on how long it will take 'Mum' to crack and say that Talli can join the Penkitty pack, we all know she loves him but she's resisting! She keeps telling us that he would be better in a home where he could have lots of individual attention but we aren't convinced. We are quite surprised at how little interest there has been for him as he is incredibly cute and very sweet natured.

The vet came and took out Boomers stitches today so he can run and play again without that silly lamp shade on his head.

Saturday 4 July 2009

Saturday 4th July

'Mum' had a lovely surprise yesterday when she found out she has been selected as a woman of achievement for her work with rescue dogs and has been invited to the Women of the Year Lunch in London. We are very proud of her!

She has been very busy today seeing dogs off to their new homes.

Blue has gone off to start his new life in Kidderminster where he will have the company of an equally lively female collie and our friend Spiros has also gone to start a new life in Holyhead with a lovely young family.

Talli should have gone to his new home today but he is still with us where I suspect he may stay because I heard 'Mum' say to Andy & Amanda yesterday that if he didn't go she would have to keep him because we all love him so much.

Wednesday 1 July 2009

Wednesday July 1st

'Mum' is very busy organising the Home-A-Dog Funday for August 16th, she has just found out that Auntie Helen is coming down to help and bringing all the family and doggies too so big thanks to Auntie Helen.

We hope that Auntie Sue is also going to come down with Poppy we are quite excited to see the lovely Poppy again.

Talli is coming on very well and is not at all shy when he is with us and he has even met Atka who is loads bigger than we are. Someone is coming to see him at the weekend.

Blue is off to Surrey next Tuesday (thankyou Andy).

Tuesday 23 June 2009

Tuesday 23rd June

We seem to have lots of new dogs this last week, all really friendly and nice but 'Mum' won't let us play with them because mostly they are bigger than us but we have met them all through the kennels.

We have Spiros who is a Collie X but we don't know what with. She is sweet and very waggy.

Boomer who is a Huntaway X he is big and bouncey but a bit scared of people, 'Mum' says he hasn't been out very much and missed out on his socialisation when he was a puppy.

Yoyo who is a GSD, she is lovely, we like her a lot.

And Paxo who is a little Terrier type dog, he is friendly too. He has had some sort of trauma to his head and has a couple of nasty wounds.

Both Boomer and Paxo are off to the vet on Thursday to be castrated and so Paxo can have his head checked.

Friday 19 June 2009

Friday 19th June

Our little friend Talli has gone to a foster home today with a lovely family in Dyffryn we were sad to see him go so soon but 'Mum' thinks he will be much happier in a home environment. We met his foster family and gave them the once over before he left.

'Dad' picked up two new dogs from the Pound last night - both are nice and friendly but we probably won't get to play with them because they are bigger and older than us.

Spiros is a collie x she is nice and friendly and about 2 years old. She likes other dogs and loves people!

Boomer is a Huntaway x and he is really nice too. He is a little bit shy around people but lively once he gets to know you.

Thursday 18 June 2009

Thursday 18th June

What fun we had today playing with Blue and Talli!

Talli is getting braver and loves to play and Blue is very excited and jumps around a lot!

We all played ball and got lots of exercise running.

Salsa left us today for her new home in Sheffield - good luck Salsa!

Tuesday 16 June 2009

Tuesday 16th June

Today we got to play with Talli, the new Collie pup. He's really friendly and can run very fast, he was chasing Bear up and down the run earlier.

The vet came this afternoon and started his vaccinations and 'Mum' has wormed and deflead him too.

Every dog that comes into the rescue immediately gets wormed and treated for fleas costing approx £10 depending on size, any unvaccinated dogs get their jabs at the cost of a further £30 and when ever possible dogs are neutered before being homed at a further cost of upwards of £100 depending again on size. It's no wonder that funds are running low! Even with a minimum donation of £80 per dog you can see we don't even recoup what we have spent on basic needs.

This also does not take into account the fact that often dogs coming into the centre have health related problems and will need additional veterinary care costing yet more money.

So please, please don't feel that we ought to just give dogs away because "they are getting a home" as was said to 'Mum' today. Rescuing, rehabilitating and re homing dogs is not a cheap process and we are solely reliant on donations and fund raising, we do not have a constantly refilling pot of gold hidden under the bed despite what people may think.

Monday 15 June 2009

Monday 15th June

'Mum' is very happy today with the good news that the kennels can stay! It's very good news for all the dogs that come here that would have had no where to go if we were closed down.

We said goodbye to Mouse and Scruff today because they have both gone to our friends Border Collie Trust in Staffordshire. We will really miss Mouse because we had lots of fun with her.

We had another collie pup in today though, he's a tri colour like Loki and really sweet. He is only about 6 months old so he will be able to play with us in a few days time when he's settled.

Friday 12 June 2009

Friday 12th June

'Mum' has been away this week for a little break, we have really missed her and are so glad she's home!
'Dad' looked after us all really well but we are still glad she's back. We have been playing with our friend Salsa and trying to play with Scrappy but he is such a grump!

Scrappy needs a foster home because he finds life in the kennels rather stressful and it's not helping with him being so anxious as well.

Both Scruff and Mouse are being passed onto Border Collie Trust on Monday to make room for more Poundies to come across. So it's all change again next week!

Saturday 6 June 2009

Saturday 6th June

What fun we have been having with all the new dogs!

We really like Mist now called Salsa, she is crazy! 'Mum' says she's a Sprollie which is a Springer crossed with a Collie, she is a real live wire and can run nearly as fast as me and Bear. 'Mum' thinks she would be good at agility, she definately needs something to do.

Scrappy is very frightened and just barks at everything, he's older than 'Mum' thought and must have been crossed with something quite small. He likes dogs but he doesn't know how to play.

Scruff is about 2 years old but really friendly despite having had a really bad home where he was knocked about. He likes to chase the ball but hasn't learned to bring it back yet.

Mouse likes to play ball now too. Unfortunately she has just come into season so we won't be able to play with her for a while.

Wednesday 3 June 2009

Wednesday 3rd June

We are happy collies today because we have two new play mates.

'Dad' picked up a lovely but very shy Collie boy puppy from the Pound today. He was not too sure about coming from the Pound and nipped 'Dad', it was only a little scatch though and 'Dad' didn't mind because the puppy was just scared. 'Dad' has called him Scrappy Do which does suit him quite well because he is just a little scrap of a dog. He is about Bears age (6 months) but much smaller than Bear so he will need feeding up. He's black like Bear with speckled legs.

Our other new friend is a Collie x named Mist, she was a 'hand in' and came to us because she has been living on a farm and she likes chasing the sheep was getting into mischief. She is not at all shy but very lively and loves to run and play ball. Mist is 6 months old too so we can all have lots of fun together.

Monday 1 June 2009

Monday 1st June

Our friend Silver is settling into her new home really well and her new 'Mum' sent us some pictures.

We think Silver looks really happy! It's good that she has her new collie friends to play with too.

Friday 29 May 2009

Friday 29th May

Dovey (now Mouse) met a new friend today, Bear's sister Meg came to play. We all had great fun together running up and down. It's been very hot today though so we soon got tired and had to lie down in the shade for a rest.

'Mum' told us that Silver is going to her new home tomorrow so we have said our goodbyes. We hope she gets on well with her new family. We will miss her.

Oz is also leaving us in the morning to go on to breed rescue. We didn't get to meet him properly but we won't miss his high pitched squeaky barks. He has been quite noisy and 'Mum' has been worried about the neighbours.

Tuesday 26 May 2009

Tuesday 26th May

The new Collie arrived, 'Dad' called him Taz because he is a little bit excitable. I don't think he will be joining in any of our games, he's a lot bigger and stronger than us. 'Mum' says he just needs some training and he will be okay.

Our friend Silver met her new Collie companions today and all went well so that means she will be leaving us in a few days. We will miss her, she has been great fun. We taught her to play which she is rather good at now.

Dovey has made great progress over the last few days and has been running and chasing with us in the dog run. At first she was scared but when she saw us doing it she decided it might be fun and joined in. Today she even got the ball a couple of times. 'Mum' is delighted with her improvement. Still a long way to go but all the signs are good.

Saturday 23 May 2009

Saturday 23rd May

Dovey is showing a little bit more improvement every day. I went to see her again this morning and we had a little play together in the run, well I played and she watched really but 'Mum' was very pleased. Dovey doesn't really know how to play and is frightened of toys at the moment but we will teach her.

Our other friend Misty is really nice too and she is much braver than Dovey and will go for a walk as long as you are gentle with her and don't make any sudden movements. It's sad to think that someone has been mean to her, she is such a sweet girl.

'Mum' says we are having another Collie come in next week so I hope he or she is nice too and can join in our games.

Thursday 21 May 2009

Thursday 21st May

Dovey has been making very small steps to accepting 'Mum' and has started to wag her tail when 'Mum' speaks to her, she is still extremely anxious but can cope with being stroked gently. So 'Mum' decided perhaps I should be the one to try and forge a stronger link between them because Bear is younger she is a bit too 'full on' and would probably scare Dovey. I think she's lovely, she is a really pretty girl and she seemed to like me too. I got some tail wags and she was watching me play ball with 'Mum' and get lots of strokes and hugs. She was interested in what was going on and I can see that one day she might like to play ball too.

Monday 18 May 2009

Monday 18th May

We think that Home-A-Dog should become a Collie rescue for poor traumatised Collies. 'Dad' went to collect another one from the Pound this morning. She's another tri colour like Loki and Dovey and another very frightened, abused girl. She is another farm reject either that or she ran away and has been deprived of any basic care. Full of fleas with a bald neck where she has been chained and an old scar across her nose probably where the farmers boot connected. 'Dad' called her Misty, she was worse with him than with 'Mum' so at least she is a bit braver than Dovey.
Auntie Diane sat in with Dovey today for a while and was shocked at how frightened she is. She is making progress but it will be very slow.

Saturday 16 May 2009

Saturday 16th May

Goodness it's been busy here today! Lots of people coming to visit but all of them to see 'Mum' because it's her birthday. Still we did get quite a few cuddles too.

Dovey is the most frightened Collie we have ever seen and 'Mum' thinks it will take a long time and a lot of patience to bring her around. 'Mum' has been sitting with her again today and has managed to stroke her but poor Dovey is completely closed down and just stares into space. 'Mum' asked Auntie Helen to post her up on the website today but says that Dovey will need a very special home. We hope it will be a home where there are already other Collies so they will help her to be more confident and happy.

Friday 15 May 2009

Friday 15th May

Silver is recovering well from her operation, I don't think she likes the lampshade thing that the vet said she has to wear on her head. It makes it very difficult for her to get around and it means she can't play with us anymore. She had a visitor today, a very nice lady who loves us Collies and knows what we are about. She already has two and Silver would be very happy there we think.

We have a new arrival at the kennels a lovely little girl Collie called Dovey, she is tri coloured like me, not black and white like Bear. She has come from a farm and is really terrified of everything. 'Mum' has been sitting in Dovey's kennel, very quiet and still, for ages today just trying to be accepted in the same space. It's so sad when dogs arrive like this mainly through lack of care and socialisation, 'Mum' gets upset for them but I know she will win her over in the end, look what she did with Bear and her sisters. Poor Dovey was so frightened you could see her heart pounding in her chest. 'Mum' says it will be a while before we are allowed to play with her. We don't get to play with all the dogs by the way, just the collies sometimes if 'Mum' thinks it will be alright.

Thursday 14 May 2009

Wednesday 13th May

Our friend Silver went to the vet today for a small operation to fix her sore leg, she was very good and behaved wonderfully well. We like her a lot and will be sorry to say goodbye to her when she gets a new home.
Ozzy has also been 'in the wars' and has managed to cut his nose on some glass whilst he was out walking, he has a nasty gash but because it's on his nose the vet can't really fix it so it will just need to heal up on it's own.
It was a dry evening so we were able to go and join in 'Mum's' fun agility with all the other dogs. We really enjoy all the running around and socialising, although Bear is such a little madam she gets very excited and barks at all the other dogs. I think she is especially jealous of Honey who is a beautiful Golden Retriever that I have my eye on.

Monday 11 May 2009

Monday 11th May

What a busy day today has been - Steve and Tim came to take photo's of Ozzy and Silver for their posters, poor Silver was very shy and didn't like the camera, it's a shame because she's very pretty. Uncle Dave came and cut the grass on his ride on mower, that looks like great fun!
It's been very warm and sunny today and we have been able to play out for most of the time. Meg came this morning and all us Collies had a great run around together, sometimes Meg and Bear are grouchy with each other but they were friends today (sibblings eh!). I haven't been able to play ball or run around too much today because I'm limping a little bit so 'Mum' says I have to take it easy in case the sun keeps shining and we get to do agility this week.

Saturday 9 May 2009

Saturday 9th May

All the humans have been busy today what with visitors, finding new homes for Charlie and Meg, weighing the puppies and all the other stuff that they seem to do everyday like cleaning, feeding and walking the dogs. Bear and me have been a little bit bored, we usually get to sit in the office with 'Mum' for at least part of the day but today we have been outside for most of the time. It's not too bad though because 'Mum' does play with us during the day and tries to teach us lots of tricks which we really love! We generally get a nice walk when she's finished doing all the other dogs too so we probably shouldn't really complain, it's not a bad life.
Auntie Megan came today and spent a lot of time striping out Silver's coat, she was very good considering how matted it was, mostly she lay with her head on Megan's knee whilst she cut and combed and finally brushed what was left. Silver looks a lot better now, she has a pretty pink bandage on her leg because 'Mum' and Megan found a bit cut on her leg so 'Mum' cleaned and dressed it for her. Silver has a very sweet nature and didn't mind a bit. We think she is very brave. We would like her to stay but 'Mum' says that 'Dad' would leave home if we got anymore dogs!

Thursday 7 May 2009

Thursday May 7th

I think 'Mum' might of mentioned Ozzy the Australian Cattle Dog in her blog, he's very handsome (although not as good looking as us Collie's) quite a stocky chap but he's bred to work cattle not sheep like us. 'Mum' thought he might have a home with some lovely friends called Bev & Stu but he's a bit too much for them as like us he needs a lot of mental stimulation and a job to do or he will get bored. Dogs like Ozzy enjoy agility because they can jump really high and like to run so he would make a good pet for someone is active and likes to do high energy things like canicross perhaps. Ozzy accidentally head butted 'Dad' this morning and made his nose bleed so I don't think he knows his own strength. 'Dad' didn't mind though and still gave him a cuddle.
Silver the collie is nice and gentle, we like her a lot, although she could do with a bath! Auntie Megan is going to do that on Saturday and then she should be much nicer to be around.

Tuesday 5 May 2009

Tuesday 5th May

We have had a busy weekend with lots of dogs coming and going. We have had some nice walks though and even managed to go out in the big van. I love going out but poor Bear has been sick each time she goes in the van. 'Mum' thinks she may be better in the front on the floor next time so we will have to see if that works. We don't all fit in the car now that we are four. If we were all Collies we would but Atka and Nu are big and take up all the room.
Meg came to play with us again today, she is a lot like Bear and runs up and down following me everywhere. She even managed to get the ball off me a couple of times so I think she is going to be a fast dog, perhaps she would like flyball.

Saturday 2 May 2009

Saturday 2nd May

We have had a fairly quiet day today, silly 'Mum' managed to get herself bitten last night so she can't hold our leads properly or even throw the ball straight. Thank goodness Auntie Diane came round with Meg (Bear's sister) so we at least had a play together and Auntie Diane played ball with us. Poor Bear got knocked over in the mad scrabble for the ball but although she was limping for a couple of minutes seems to be okay now. It's a good job us Collies are tough!
We are hoping to have another playmate in a few weeks because 'Mum' says that Auntie Nannette is getting a new puppy just like Honey. We like Honey, she's a little bit bonkers but that's okay because we are too. It's nice to have lots of doggy friends to play with.

Friday 1st May

Hi I'm Bear, Loki told you a part of my story on Wednesday. I was another unwanted farm collie and I am so glad that I ended up at Home-A-Dog and not the horrible puppy farm in Bala were I was destined for originally with my two sisters. When that didn't happen I was meant to be drowned by the horrible farmer that we lived with first of all. Luckily a nice lady learned of our plight and phoned up 'Mum' to take us instead. That was really good luck because by then we were really very frightened and I had learned that biting was the best form of defense. 'Mum' has taught me that I don't need to do that now because I am safe. I like it here very much with Loki and the other dogs that live indoors with us. I especially like 'Mum's' cat and try to play with him but he doesn't always like it and tries to run away. Sometimes I put my paw on him to make him stay but he gets cross and makes a loud hissing sound so I let him go. I also like the two rats that are in a cage in the caravan, I bark at them and yesterday I was very naughty and pulled their cage off the chest whilst 'Mum' was out being busy with the kennel dogs. Poor 'Mum', she was very worried about them and of course all the mess I had made. Luckily the rats were non the worse for their ordeal.

Wednesday 29th April

Mum has her own blog for the rescue Home-A-Dog but we her own dogs seldom get a mention so we decided to start our own blog.

I'm Loki and this is me asleep on the sofa. I was one of Mum's rescue dogs and came in with my brothers when I was only 4 weeks old. I was very ill when I arrived and I was covered in sores. Mum looked after me really well and made me all better. By then she loved me very much and said I could stay. That was almost a year ago. Just recently Mum adopted another Collie called Bear who is like me but black and just 5 months old. Poor Bear was another unwanted farm dog like me and had lived in a dark miserable shed for months with just her sisters for company.
We are both lucky dogs because we get to spend all day with Mum and she does lots of fun things with us, walks, play, tricks and training. I have just started agility practice but Bear is still too young so she usually just comes to watch. We should have been going tonight but the rain has made the ground all slippery and wet so Mum says it's not safe for us or our humans to run around on.
